Templates are standard documents that you use in your business. They are very similar to the templates used in word processors like Microsoft Word. You could, for example, have a standard correspondence template that contains your business's postal address and the customer's details.

CQWorx's templates are always defined as RTF (Rich Text Format) documents. RTF is a common format and for example Microsoft Word or even Window's built-in Write application are both capable of saving documents in RTF format. Templates depend on tags. Tags are placeholders for data fields, for example the customer's name, his postal address and telephone numbers. CQWorx will automatically populate tags by substituting the contents of the database field for the tag. For example, if the tag is <_customer_first_>, and your customer's name is John, CQWorx will generate a document with "John" in place of the <_customer_first__> tag.

As you can see from the above, tags are enclosed by these characters: <_ and _>, for example <_customer_first_> and <_customer_initials_>. You create a template simply by creating a new RTF document in your favourite word processor, and placing tags where you want various fields automatically populated. For an example of a template, please click here

Entity tags can refer to the customer, in which case they are prefixed by <_customer_, your business unit, <_busunit_ and yourself or the system user, prefixed by <_user_

If your tags are not being populated, it may be that your word processor has inserted formatting characters between the characters you typed. In this case, please re-type the tags in your template document manually, and only change the formatting, e.g. the font, for the whole tag and not for sections of the tag.

The table below contains a list of the tags supported by CQWorx.
